Aim

To provide students with a knowledge of manufacturing management techniques, and how these techniques can be applied for increasing manufacturing competitiveness.

On completion of this subject, the student should be able to:

  • understand the applications of different manufacturing techniques.
  • assess the strengths and weaknesses of different manufacturing management techniques.
  • introduce improved procedures into existing manufacturing activities.

Syllabus

This subject requires students to attend a series of seminars and workshops on manufacturing management conducted by national and international speakers. The seminars are structured around the theme of manufacturing management techniques and how they can be applied to improve manufacturing competitiveness. Students are then required to apply the knowledge gained through the seminars to individual case studies.

Teaching and Learning Arrangements

This subject will be delivered using the following means:

Seminars/ Workshops: to introduce basic concepts and their applications

Tutorials: to allow opportunity to develop and understand concepts and techniques

Case studies: to apply concepts and techniques

Assessment

Seminar and workshop participation 40%
Submission of case study 60%
