LEAN MANUFACTURING SYSTEMSSubject Code: BUSS5082 Aim The aim of this subject is to provide students with an understanding and appreciation of the history and current operations of the manufacturing sector throughout the world. The subject concentrates on the adoption of work organisational practices and business processes to bring about quantum and incremental productivity, safety and quality improvements. By undertaking this subject, students will progress in the development of the following qualities:
Syllabus History of manufacturing and manufacturing methods through coach building, craft industries to mass production; lean and agile production methods and management; rise of Japanese motor industry; workforce and organisational design and supply; customer and supplier relations. Teaching and Learning Arrangements This subject will be delivered using the following means: Lectures, to give an outline of the work to be covered. Tutorials, to give an opportunity for reflection on lecture material and assigned reading. Case Studies and simulations with broad considerations.
