Innovation: Beyond the Idea

Events

Presented by:

The Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering

The Powerhouse Museum

Thursday 3 April 2003 - 1.30pm - 7.00pm

Venue: Powerhouse Museum, 500 Harris Street, Ultimo

You are invited to join us on 3 April to explore the fundamental requirements to succeed in the global market from an Australian base. Hear from successful industries how they captured competitive markets and the role of innovation in that success. Debate how we might use those key factors to underpin further global success in the years to come. You can help decide what the nation should do to prosper from innovation and technology in the next two decades.

Innovation: Beyond the idea marks 20 years of pushing the engineering envelope and championing innovation by The Warren Centre and therefore celebrates 120 years of engineering education in Australia.

For business and industry leaders, government representatives and students this high profile event is a rare opportunity to build understanding of the fundamental requirements for success and to network with leaders of enterprises of all shapes and sizes that are major players in global competitive markets.

The issues will be explored through industry presentations, case studies, debate and discussion:

  • Case studies - explore the factors underpinning global success in five representative industries that have generated particular wealth in the last two decades:
    • Automotive
    • Wine
    • Medical
    • Mining & Metallurgy
    • Industrial Information & Communications Technology
  • 2023 Royal Commission into the global competitiveness of the Australian technology industry. Prompted by a catastrophe late in 2022, the Government has called a Royal Commission to investigate how Australia can again ratchet up its share of global wealth creation from technology.
