John BichenoDirector, Masters Program in Lean Operations, Lean Enterprise Research
Centre, Cardiff University, Wales, United Kingdom. John directs the Masters Program in Lean Operations, and has been involved in
a number of research programmes, such as the lean processing project (LEAR) in
the UK automotive sector. His particular interest are in JIT Scheduling and shop
floor continuous improvement. He has been a Reader in Operations Management at
the University of Buckingham, and is the author of several best-selling books.
At the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg John became Associate Professor
of Industrial Engineering, before which he had 11 years experience in operations
management. John Bicheno’s books on quality management and the lean toolbox have an international reputation – practical, accessible, clear. Visiting Dates20 Oct - 1 Nov 2002 Smartlink seminar topicsJohn will outline the principles of lean thinking and show how simplicity and visibility can lead to the reduction of waste and increased productivity. The focus will be on the adoption of these principles in small and medium-sized enterprises and the relationship between techniques such as JIT and TQM and lean thinking. While the focus for
John’s presentations
will be an introduction to lean thinking, two other possible topics are lean
accounting and quality management as it relates to lean thinking, with the focus
in all cases being on the adoption of these techniques by small & medium
sized enterprises. John’s presentations will be consistent with the lean
