Umit Bititci is the Director of CSM
and a Reader at the University of
Strathclyde. He is also a Chartered Engineer and a member of the
Institute of Operations Management.
Umit is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde where he gained a
master’s degree in Manufacturing Management. Following graduation he
joined AMST at Liverpool as an Engineering Consultant. During this period
he developed a detailed understanding of Business Planning and Control
Systems and Quality Management Systems. He consulted for GEC Installation
Equipment Ltd. playing a key role in the implementation of a factory wide
Business Planning and Control System.
He then joined the University of Strathclyde as a lecturer where his
research focused on Manufacturing Integration. He was also actively
involved in a number of project management and consultancy assignments,
directly relating to his research, with major blue chip companies.
Umit's management consultancy experience was further broadened when he
joined to a major Scottish based Management Consultancy where he
progressed to the position of Senior Consultant with account management
responsibility.
During 1992 he moved back to the University as a Senior Lecturer where
he was awarded his Doctorate for his work on Business Performance
Improvement Methods. During early 1996 he founded the Centre for Strategic
Manufacturing. In his current position within the University, as the
Director of the Centre, he is responsible for the development and delivery
of various research, development and technology transfer programmes to
improve industrial performance.
Throughout his consultancy and academic career, Umit has worked with a
wide spectrum of clients on assignments such as:

- Manufacturing Strategy Development

This broad range of experience has been developed in parallel with a
series of long term professional relationships with clients over sustained
periods. Umit has conducted consultancy and training assignments with
clients in the UK, Europe, Asia and USA covering the following industry

Umit’s current research and development areas include Business,
Operations and Information Strategy as well as Performance Measurement and
Management. The emphasis of this work focuses on the development of best
practice models and transfer of these to industry through methodologies,
standards and workbooks. To date Umit has published some 80 papers in
international journal and conferences an has been responsible for
attracting over £1.5M of research income.
