Greg McCann JD, CPA

Director, Family Business Center

Graduating from Stetson University with a major in accounting, Greg began his career with Price Waterhouse. Obtaining his CPA license, he then worked with his family business Glenbeigh Inc. There he led the effort to help the company develop five new hospitals, including successfully obtaining the state licenses for all five.

After graduating from law school at the University of Florida and becoming a licensed member of the Florida Bar, Greg began an entrepreneurial venture with two family members. A. Thatcher Inc. was a company that designed a prototype for franchises directly selling custom clothing to business people.

After joining the Stetson University (Deland, Florida) faculty in 1990, Greg began in 1992 training and consulting. He has worked with some of the leading legal and accounting firms, as well as for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Since 1998 Greg has worked primarily with family owned businesses, with an emphasis on the next generation.

In 1998 Greg McCann became the Director of the Family Business Center at Stetson. He was the architect behind the creation of the award-winning Holistic Model, which is a model that integrates teaching, research and service. Under his direction, the Family Business Center won the National Model Entrepreneurship Education Program Award. The Center was also a finalist for the McGraw/Hill Academy of Management Innovative Program Award. Professor McCann was co-editor of two books that included articles presented at the annual family business conference hosted by Stetson. His most recent accomplishment has been directing the coordination of a five course Family Business Minor, making Stetson the second school in the nation to have such a program. He also consults with Universities about developing academically based Family Business Programs.
