One of the best ways to keep up to date with what's happening in manufacturing is to subscribe to email newsletters. There are more and more of these, and most are free. (A few others - usually faxed rather than emailed - are expensive, typically hundreds of dollars per year, but claim to provide key information in advance of other sources.)

The free ones tend to come and go, but as one newsletter fades out, another usually emerges to take its place.

As well as Management Alert, the Smartlink newsletter, various other online manufacturing-related newsletters are published in Australia. The major ones include:

Australian newsletters

Munet, produced by Bob Brown. A personal newsletter, this is "encouraged by the Manufacturing Society of Australia (ManSA), but does not necessarily express the views of ManSA."

Industrysearch - a comprehensive commercial newsletter covering all aspects of manufacturing in Australia. The Smartlink newsfeed page is supplied by Industrysearch.

QMI Solutions, an occasional newsletter from our partner QMI.

Linkwest Industry links, from the University of Western Sydney.

The Clustering Alliance: a newsletter for members and friends of Clusters Asia Pacific. To subscribe, contact apd@orac.net.au, Clusters Asia Pacific is related to TCI, The Competitiveness Institute, which held its 2002 international conference in Cairns

E-Manufacts, from Smartlink partner the South Australian Centre for Manufacturing. This is the electronic version of their long-established newsletters Manufacts. The first electronic issue appeared September 2000.

ITEK news, from ITEK, a South Australian organization which develops new and established businesses that are based on innovative technologies and practices.

International newsletters

LEED Flash, a monthly newsletter from the OECD's LEED program on clustering and alliances. To subscribe or unsubscribe to LEED Flash, please send an e-mail to lucy.clarke@oecd.org.

Superfactory Newsletter, a fortnightly newsletter from the international web site Superfactory.

Manufacturing.net has a US-based weekly newsletter.

The Enterprise Newsletter, from Information Engineering Services (Clive Finkelstein).

www.manufacturingtalk.com - a weekly newsletter of British origin.

The Manufacturing Times in the UK has a monthly newsletter.

Catalogues of newsletters

Engineering newsletters (as at June 2001) http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue28/eevl3/

www.advancedmanufacturing.com has a long list of newsletters. This is dated July 2001, so the chances are that some have either closed, or changed their web addresses.

Any others?

If any reader of this page knows of other useful newsletters covering manufacturing - specially ones that don't focus on a single industry, and are aimed at smaller manufacturers, please let us know: email info@smartlink.net.au
Thanks!
