Help on searching the Smartlink site
To get more specific search results, try using the
following tips:
- Use multiple words
- Example: manufacturing management
education
will find all pages with at least one of these words
- Use quotation marks to find phrases
- Example: "manufacturing
management"
will find pages with this phrase, but not "management of
manufacturing"
- Use synonyms
- Example: safe secure privacy
security
will find pages containing one of more of those words ("or" is implied
between the words you specify)
- Use appropriate capitalization
- Example: Education
will find pages containing the word "Education" (with a capital E) but
not "education" (with a small e).
To find a word regardless of capitalization, begin it with the lower case
letter - e.g. education will find both "education" and "Education".
- Use plus (+) or minus (-)
- Example: +manufacturing education
course seminar
will find pages with the word "manufacturing" and one or more of the
other words not preceded by +
Example python -monty will find pages
containing the word "python" but not the word "monty"
- Use wildcards
- Example: safe* secur* priva*
will find pages with the words safe, safer, safety, secure, securing,
security, private, privacy, etc..
(The asterisk replaces any number of letters or digits, including none -
i.e. safe* will still find safe.)
Searching for *saf* will find pages
containing unsafe, saffron, etc.
- Spelling
- If all else fails, recheck your spelling! However the
Atomz search engine is quite tolerant of spelling mistakes. Search for
IEAust, misspell it
IEUast, and it will still find IEAust. However sometimes this
tolerance will produce a lot of similarly-spelled words which aren't
relevant to your search.
This search engine will find only words which the software
recognizes as text. Words which are part of an image (e.g. in Powerpoint
presentations, RealPlayer videos, and Acrobat files) are not found.
Interpreting results
The search results open in a new window.
Click on the page title to go straight to that page - but
you may have to scroll down to see the word/s you have searched for.
Pages with the highest score are shown first. High scores
are caused by your search word/s occurring many times on the page, and near
the beginning. |
